E.H. Sumners Foundation

E.H. “Harry” and Ginger Sumners, both originally from Indiana, spent their lifetime building a successful timber business in Central Mississippi. Through their benevolence, the Sumners Foundation was created to promote the advancement of education. The foundation was established in 1977 by, then, 91 year old Ginger Sumners to honor her husband’s work. The foundation awards scholarships to residents of Montgomery County and four neighboring counties. As one of the largest privately funded foundations ever established in Mississippi for higher education, the trust gives assistance to residents for undergraduate, graduate and even continuing education studies. Residents of Montgomery County are fortunate that some, or all, of their higher education costs will be covered through the Sumners scholarship.

The Sumners’ vision—to contribute money they made in Mississippi to the education of young people– has helped thousands seeking a higher education. The scholarship fund presents an extraordinary advantage for those of Montgomery County wishing to attend one of the top five
Mississippi institutions. Together, the colleges offer a virtually limitless range of curriculums and opportunities.
